10 Frequently Asked Composite Bonding Questions – Transform Your Smile with Confidence!

This article will address the key Composite Bonding Questions patients ask. Once you know the responses to the key questions you will feel more informed.

1. What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment designed to improve the appearance of your teeth quickly and effectively. This treatment involves applying a tooth-coloured white filling material to the surface of your teeth. This resin is then expertly sculpted and hardened to correct imperfections such as chips, gaps, and minor misalignments. This means we can enhance the size, shape and colour with this one treatment! The result is a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing smile.

2. How much does composite bonding cost?

Composite bonding prices vary on a number of factors, such as the complexity of treatment, materials used and the dentist’s experience. At Pine Dental & Aesthetics, we’re experts in composite bonding and our dentist have completed further training on this treatment to offer our patients the highest level of care. During your free smile consultation, a bespoke treatment plan with pricing will be discussed with you.

3. Can everyone have composite bonding?

Although composite bonding is an amazing transformative procedure, unfortunately not everyone can have it done. For example, there are certain lifestyle habits and oral diseases which can reduce your chance of having this procedure. These include biting nails, teeth grinding and clenching your jaw which can potentially damage the composite.

The teeth which will have the resin applied to also need to be healthy enough to support the composite material. In the event the teeth are not strong enough we may recommend a dental crown.

4. Can composite bonding be reversed?

It can be reversed as your dentist should be able to remove the bonding material on your teeth exposing the natural tooth underneath. New bonding material can also then be reapplied to reshape the teeth.

5. Can I whiten my bonding?

Unfortunately, teeth which have composite bonding on them cannot be whitened with traditional teeth whitening treatments. This is because the resin which is applied to the teeth does not react to the whitening agent the same way as natural teeth to. This means that in the event your bonding becomes discoloured or stained then they will need to be replaced.

That means before deciding on getting dental bonding in Sutton, you need to be ready to be committed to maintaining good oral hygiene and avoid foods and drinks that can cause staining.

Composite Bonding Questions

6. Does it hurt?

One of the most appealing aspects is generally a painless procedure. Since the process is minimally invasive and typically doesn’t require anaesthesia (unless you’re bonding a tooth with existing decay that needs to be removed first), most patients experience little to no discomfort. You might feel some mild sensitivity or pressure during or after the procedure, but this is temporary and subsides quickly.

7. Do I need to straighten my teeth beforehand?

We often recommend teeth straightening before your composite bonding to put your teeth in the best position first. This means you will require less composite bonding and your composite bonding will last longer!

8. How long does composite bonding take?

After thorough planning and often doing a “trial smile”, the process can be completed in a single session of a few hours – depending on the number of teeth being treated. We take our time to make sure the bonding resin is seamlessly blending into your natural tooth and polished to give a natural-looking shine. We offer a complimentary review visit to make adjustments if needed.

9. How long does composite bonding last?

Composite bonding can last a very long time when placed by a highly skilled dentist and with regular maintenance. On average, it should last 5 years. It is vital that you visit your dentist for regular check-ups and hygienist cleans to polish and monitor your teeth bonding.

10. Is composite bonding covered on the NHS?

Composite bonding is considered a cosmetic dental treatment and is not covered on the NHS or dental insurance plans. At Pine Dental & Aesthetics, we offer 0% interest financing over up to 12 months to make cosmetic procedures more affordable for all patients!
